Man found dead after falling into Yakima River without life jacket | News | applevalleynewsnow.com
WEST RICHLAND, Wash. – A man is dead after falling into the Yakima River on Sunday night, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office said.
According to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, at about 9:13 p.m. on June 29, deputies responded to a report of a 55-year-old man who had fallen into the Yakima River near the Van Giesen Street bridge in West Richland. Deputies said the man had been on the river with a group, and had not been wearing a life jacket when he fell into the water. Deputies said the man’s friends had made efforts to rescue him, but had been unsuccessful.
BCSO deputies said local agencies launched drones and began searching the river for the man. A diver team was also called to help in the search. However, at about 10:58 p.m., the man was found and confirmed to be deceased. BCSO said the circumstances of the man’s death are still being investigated.
